In April, I went to a workshop posted by Allison Harp and Lauren Apel called HEY SISTA in Austin, TX. This was my first photography workshop AND first time traveling alone, so this was a pretty big deal for me. Even when I did my internship in San Diego, my boyfriend (who is now my husband) drove me down, got me settled in with my new roommates, then flew back to drive back home with me. This was really the first time I've ever done something totally alone where I knew nobody.
When people ask me about Hey Sista, I really don't know what to say. I've even had the images loaded into this blog post for over a month and have put off posting it, just because I struggle to find the words to go along with them.
It's hard to explain unless you've done it. I've never been in a position where I am surrounded by like-minded people for an extended period of time. I have never done anything where I learned so much in such a small period of time, not to mention these are friendships I know I'll have forever. I don't even know what to say about what I learned and what I got out of it, because even two months later I feel like I'm still processing everything. All I can say is if you are a photographer and you have the opportunity to go to a workshop like this, SAY YES. I promise it'll change your life and business.
THANK YOU to Hart Floral for her beautiful floral installations throughout the house that provided fresh and new inspiration daily. Also, thank you to Meagan Bechtel for being our on-site hair stylist and makeup artist. She is so gifted and her blend of sass and joy is contagious.
Here are some of my favorite images I captured throughout the week. These are my sistas.
